Faculty Listening and Learning Sessions with Chancellor Nasse
As Pima’s new Chancellor, Jeffrey P. Nasse, Ph. D., settles into his role, he is engaging in a structured process of “listening and learning” during his first 100 days. He is reaching out to Pima students, faculty, staff, Governing Board members and community partners to hear their perspectives on the College.

These in-person events have been scheduled for faculty and adjuncts.

  • 3:30-4:30 p.m., Sept. 12: West Campus faculty, Proscenium Theater, West Campus Center for the Arts
  • 3:30-4:30 p.m., Sept. 17: Downtown Campus faculty, Amethyst Room, Downtown Campus
  • 4-5 p.m., Sept. 19: Northwest Campus faculty, G105, Northwest Campus
  • 2:30-3:30 p.m., Oct. 8: Adjunct faculty only, C105, District Office
  • 3:30-4:30 p.m., Oct. 14: East Campus faculty, L101, East Campus
  • 3:30-4:30 p.m., Oct. 15: Desert Vista Campus faculty, F123, Desert Vista Campus.

These sessions will not be recorded or live streamed.

Faculty Innovation Project, Sabbatical Proposals Now Open
Two professional development opportunities are open to regular, full-time faculty:

  • First, through Sept. 30, the Teaching Innovation Project (TIP) is accepting release time requests for activities/projects in Spring 2025. These activities/projects must enable the faculty member to develop novel innovative teaching approaches, and will extend beyond their regular roles and responsibilities. Read details about submitting proposals here. The TIP pilot is offered through the Office of the Provost.

  • Also, through Oct. 21, the PCC Sabbatical Program is accepting proposals for 2025-2026. This program provides individual, regular full-time faculty members with extended professional development that will benefit students, faculty, the College and community. Full details about proposal submission are at MyPima > Intranet Home > Academic Services > Faculty Professional Development.

Leadership Dialogues with Department Heads: Code of Conduct and Title IX
College department heads and faculty are invited to a virtual meeting tomorrow with Staci Shea, Pima’s manager of Code of Conduct and Title IX:

This is an opportunity to learn about and discuss the Student Code of Conduct, including incident reporting and classroom management, and resources available to support students facing challenges. The goal is to help faculty leaders create a more supportive learning environment.

Faculty, Staff Volunteers Needed for 8th Annual New Student Welcome
ima employee and student volunteers are being sought for the 8th Annual New Student Welcome, Oct. 25, hosted by the Pima First Year Experience Program.

Volunteers are needed for various tasks before, during and after the event, which is expected to draw 500 current and prospective students. Volunteers will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card and will earn one healthy rewards point through the PCC Wellness program.

Details about volunteer activities, times and more are on this form. To volunteer, complete and submit the form by Oct. 4.

Get Help with Your Community Engagement
The Community Engagement dashboard is accessible on MyPima. There you can:

  • Learn more about Pima’s collegewide community engagement and the resources available to you.
  • Report your community engagement for posting to the collegewide calendar.
  • Sign up for volunteer opportunities to share your subject-matter expertise.
  • Share your volunteer opportunities and outreach photos.

Pima Foundation Seeks Volunteers for Tucson Classics Car Show
Pima Foundation requests that College employees volunteer for it at the Tucson Classics Car Show, Oct. 18-20. A variety of tasks and times are available to volunteer for. You can sign up at https://tucsonclassicscarshow.com/pima-community-college-foundation/.

City, Nonprofit Seek Volunteers for Hope in the Park
The City of Tucson and a local nonprofit seek 300 volunteers to help put on Hope in the Park, a day-long event in October to provide various resources for unsheltered individuals and families.

Hope in the Park will be 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 11 at Rudy Garcia Park, 5001 S. Nogales Highway. Those attending will get help obtaining services in health screenings, behavioral health services, Veterans Affairs benefits, food, shelter/housing, legal assistance, clothing, haircuts, animal care and more.

Tasks of volunteers range from event-day setup (7-8:30 a.m.), registration and guiding (8 a.m.-1 p.m.), general work (9 a.m.-2 p.m.) and cleanup (1-3 p.m.) Volunteers can sign up on the Tucson Homeless Connect’s website, tucsonhomelessconnect.org. Tucson Homeless Connect is a 501c3 nonprofit.

Pima Open Digital Press, Pima Open Catalog Available
Pima Open Digital Press, a multimedia publishing platform powered by Pressbooks, has dropped. Also, check out the Pima Open Catalog. This is a fun and easy tool that allows you to remix, revise and publish Open Education Resources (OER) for courses, guidebooks for programs, showcases for student work and more.

The OER team is looking for early adopters who might have an OER project or open college resource that they want to see come to life. Submit a TDX Ticket for support or contact Chelsea James, cjames2@pima.edu.

Sept. 26 Deadline to Submit Emerging Leaders Workshop, Presentation Proposals
Pima Student Life is seeking faculty, adjunct and staff program proposals for workshop presentations for the Emerging Leaders Student Summit on Oct. 11. Proposals for 50-minute workshops are sought on these topics:

  • Time Management
  • Goal Setting
  • Communication
  • Group Dynamics
  • Health and Wellness
  • Change Management

Submit your proposal for facilitating a 50-minute workshop or presentation through this online form. Notifications of proposal acceptance will be sent by Sept. 26.

  • Pima Affinity Networks Forming: In alignment with the College’s strategic plan, culture of care plan and Pima’s institutional behaviors, the Office of College and Community Cultural Connection, in partnership with Human Resources, has created Pima Affinity Networks.
    Affinity networks or groups are voluntary, employee-led groups established around common interests, purpose(s) and/or characteristics, typically under-represented identities and their allies. These networks aim to foster a diverse, inclusive workplace and connection to students and the greater community.

    Neda Contreras’s oil paintings blend whimsical beach scenes with skeletons, lowrider scenes depicting the society and culture in the Southwest, rooted in Mexican Folk Art traditions.
