Respiratory Care

The demand for respiratory therapists has never been higher. If you enjoy helping people in their time of need, this may be the field for you.

As a registered respiratory therapist, you’ll help patients with breathing and heart problems. You’ll be providing care to adults and children with obstructive lung disease like asthma, as well as, premature babies whose lungs aren’t fully developed.

You’ll resuscitate patients in the emergency department who can’t breathe or are experiencing a heart attack. You’ll help diagnose patients with sleep disorders or care for patients on life support in the intensive care unit.

You’ll be able to work in a hospital, urgent care, sleep lab, physician’s office, or provide home health care. With continued education and credentials, you’ll be able to conduct research, teach, or advance into supervisory and administrative career tracks.

It’s a helping profession with a variety of positions, job stability, and competitive pay.

After your first year, you’ll take what you’ve learned in the classroom and lab and apply it in a clinical environment at local hospitals. By the time you graduate, you’ll have completed over 700 clinical hours—preparing you for the fast-paced profession of a respiratory therapist.
