Goals

Surgical Technology AAS

To prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

  • Prepare students to function as essential members of the surgical team. Graduates will develop the knowledge, technical skills and professional behaviors required to effectively support surgeons, registered nurses and other perioperative personnel. Students will learn to prepare the operating room, organize and maintain sterile equipment, anticipate the needs of the surgical team, and ensure a safe, efficient and patient-centered surgical environment.
  • Provide comprehensive training in surgical procedures and practices. The program will offer hands-on laboratory practice and supervised clinical experiences designed to build competency in aseptic technique, instrumentation, equipment operation, surgical case management and sterile processing. Students will also gain exposure to a wide variety of surgical specialties.
  • Support students in meeting national certification standards. Students will be thoroughly prepared to sit for the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) exam.
