@PimaNews Summer Schedule
The May 15 @PimaNews will be the final issue of the spring 2025 semester. The summer schedule is May 29, June 12 and 26, July 10 and 24, and Aug. 7. The first issue of fall 2025 is Aug. 21. The deadline for submitting announcements is noon, Mondays, the week of publication. And items should be limited to 75 words. 

Help Us Amplify Student Voices
Pima’s marketing is evolving — we’re putting real students front and center to showcase their unique Pima journeys and let their voices shine. Know a student or alum who’d be a great fit? Encourage them to fill out this short form! They can share as much about themselves as they’d like and let us know which marketing projects interest them. With your help, we can feature more students and highlight the wide range of academic paths, interests and goals that make our Pima community so diverse. Pima Heroes Award
Encourage students to apply for the Pima Heroes Award! The scholarship application deadline is May 30.

The Pima Heroes Award is a new recognition and scholarship opportunity for students who make a positive impact in their communities. Up to 10 students will be named 2025 Pima Heroes, each receiving a $1,000 award. Also, one outstanding Hero may receive an additional $5,000. To qualify, students must be enrolled in at least six credits for both Spring and Fall 2025 (continuing students) and actively participate in community service.

29th Annual PCC Foundation Golf Tournament May 10
Join Pima Foundation for the 29th Annual Golf Tournament taking place this Saturday at Omni Tucson National. This event offers a great day on the greens while raising funds to support essential PCC programs that enhance the student experience.

Workshop Today: Academic Freedom and the First Amendment
The Office of the Provost, in partnership with the Office of General Counsel, invites faculty and staff to an interactive workshop today from 1-2:30 p.m. The session will explore academic freedom, the First Amendment, Pima’s related policies and the impact of recent executive orders on higher education.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of faculty rights, institutional responsibilities and policy changes affecting academic discourse and shared governance. The workshop also will provide historical and legal context for these important issues.

Finance Department Hosting Office Hours May 13
The College’s Finance Department is hosting open office hours from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. on May 13. Employees with questions or in need of assistance are invited to join via Google Meet or by calling 336-652-2612 and entering PIN: 595 707 702#.

SandScript 2025 Launch Party
Celebrate the release of SandScript 2025, Pima’s award-winning student arts and literature magazine. The celebration starts at 6 p.m. May 14 in the Proscenium Theatre at the West Campus.

The event includes readings by student writers, presentations of featured artwork and the announcement of this year’s genre contest winners. Copies of SandScript 2025 and related merchandise will be available for purchase. Cake and light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact myoung20@pima.edu.

Cababi Launch Party
Join us in celebrating the writers and artists featured in the Cababi Art & Literary Magazine at 6 p.m. May 15 in the Amethyst Room at the Downtown Campus. The event includes brief readings, artwork presentations and printed copies of Cababi. Soft drinks, a light dinner and cake will be served. If you have questions, contact mamccloy@pima.edu.

EGTSS Virtual Brown Bag Lunch Happening Today
The Ethnic, Gender and Transborder Studies/Sociology (EGTSS) Department hosts a virtual brown bag lunch 12-1 p.m. today via Zoom. Elizabeth Gaxiola, faculty member in Mexican American Studies/American Indian Studies, will share insights from her study trip to Bolivia with Pueblos Originarios. Join us on Zoom.

Massage Services Available at Northwest Campus Through May 15
The Northwest Campus Massage Clinic offers quality Swedish massage services to students, staff and the public. Pima employees and students with a Pima A# can enjoy a 50-minute massage for $20 ($30, public). The clinic is in Room A211. Appointments are available on Thursdays through May 15 at 10:30 a.m.; 11:35 a.m.; 12:40 p.m.; 1:45 p.m. Masking is required for both student-therapists and clients. Therapeutic massage is not recommended for anyone with serious or uncontrolled medical conditions, contagious illnesses or fever, or for women who are pregnant. To schedule an appointment, contact Jamie Vaughan-Signorini, jlvaughan@pima.edu. Prepayment is required.

Volunteers Needed for May 21 Commencement Ceremony
The College needs volunteers to help at the 2025 Commencement Ceremony on May 21 at the Tucson Convention Center Arena.

Volunteers are needed to assist in different capacities:

Guest Usher

  • needed 5:30-9 p.m. (some assignments may leave by 7:15 p.m.)
  • help ensure attendees find their way to the appropriate seating areas
  • help direct graduates to the check-in area and assist them during the ceremony

Student/Faculty Guide

  • needed 4:45-7 p.m.
  • direct arriving graduates and faculty to the appropriate check-in entry point

Graduate Check-in

  • needed 4:45-7 p.m.
  • provide pre-printed reader card to each graduate
  • direct graduates to the staging area for entering the arena

Register for the Teaching Strategies Workshop
The annual Teaching Strategies Workshop will take place 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. August 9 at the Downtown Campus. Faculty are encouraged to propose a workshop or panel presentation by completing this form. Full-time and adjunct faculty will receive compensation for facilitating a session. To register for the event, log into MyPima, select 2025 Teaching Strategies Workshop, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click View Details, then Request. Start Planning Your 2026–2027 Sabbatical Proposal
Full-time faculty, it's not too early to begin preparing your sabbatical proposal for the 2026-2027 academic year. The submission deadline is Oct. 20.

The Sabbatical Program offers eligible full-time faculty members the opportunity for extended professional development that benefits students, colleagues, the College and community. Faculty members may apply for their first one-semester (six-month) full-pay or half-pay sabbatical after completing five consecutive academic or fiscal years of full-time service at the College. For guidelines, visit MyPima > Intranet Home > Academic Services > Faculty Professional DevelopmentIf you have questions or need assistance with your application, please contact a member of the Faculty Professional Development & Sabbatical Committee.

Capital Asset Policy Update
Effective July 1, the College will raise its capital asset threshold from $5,000 to $10,000. This change aligns with the Office of Management and Budget’s Uniform Guidance, which recently raised the federal threshold for capital equipment. Additional details will be shared on the intranet as the end of the fiscal year approaches.

Federal Work Study Supervisor Training Sessions
The College’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships is hosting virtual Federal Work Study (FWS) supervisor training sessions this month. Current and prospective FWS supervisors are encouraged to participate. Sign up here for the virtual training
