Revised Student Class Attendance Policies & Procedures
The safety of our students as well as staff and faculty is our highest priority as the College continues to monitor global 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
In all decisions the College is making, we are aligning ourselves with the advice provided from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on how to limit the spread of infectious diseases, such as COVID-19.
During this period, you should not feel that if you miss a class or a series of classes, you will receive a penalty. It is critical to adhere to the public health protocol to prevent the virus from spreading.
Student Class Absence Due to Illness
Effective today, March 10, 2020, we are implementing the following protocol that aligns with the CDC and the University of Arizona.
- Please stay at home if you feel sick, and most especially if you think you may have an infectious disease.
- If you need to miss a class, or series of classes, due to illness, you are responsible for emailing your course instructor, with a copy to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Learning, avcforstudentlearning@pima.edu, to let them know of the need, as soon as possible. There is NO need for a medical excuse to be provided at this time.
- You are responsible for completing any work that you might miss due to illness, including assignments, quizzes, tests and exams.
- You are responsible for communicating with your instructor(s) via the means of communication established by the instructor(s), e.g., via D2L, email, text, etc.
If you might need to miss more than 1 week of classes in any one semester you will be required to provide a doctor's note of explanation to avcforstudentlearning@pima.edu. The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Learning Office will communicate the receipt of the note (with expected end date) out to the relevant faculty. Students that adhere to these processes will not be penalized per the attendance policy for the course.
If illness prevents you from beginning a course (in our section 8 week semester, for example), please reach out to the Financial Aid Office by logging into your MyPima, Financial Aid tab. This information is available in the Announcements section. You can reach out to Financial Aid under the "Contact Us" section.
We will continue to monitor this virus and its impact on our community and provide frequent updates.
