LULAC honors Pima Athletic Director Monaco

Tucson, AZ – The League of United Latin American Citizens Council 1057 has chosen Pima Community College Athletic Director Jim Monaco as recipient of its LULAC 2019 National Presidential Citation Community Service Award.

Monaco will be recognized during LULAC’s 30th Annual Educator’s Awards and Scholarship Banquet at 6:30 p.m., April 18, 2019, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Tucson - Reid Park, 445 S. Alvernon Way.

Proceeds from the banquet allow LULAC Council 1057 to sponsor students to attend the annual LNESC Washington Youth Leadership Seminar and provide scholarships in coordination with LULAC’s National Scholarship Foundation.

Monaco has been acting Athletic Director since Fall 2018. He was Pima’s head football coach from 2014 to 2018, when the College ended the program. That team ended its season ranked No. 20 in the NJCAA and lost to Kilgore College in the TIPS C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl. Arizona Daily Star Sports Columnist Greg Hansen ranked Monaco No. 48 in his Top 100 Sports Figures of 2018.

Monaco holds two Master of Education degrees, (Special Education, University of Phoenix, and Special Education Administration, Jones International University). He received a Bachelor’s Degree in counseling from Park University. He has coached baseball and football at the high school, community college and university level since 1981.
