Southern Arizona Dental Hygiene Society President Wini Quartermaine, RDH, BSDH, a Dental Hygiene program adjunct faculty, is the guest speaker. Dental Hygiene Class of 2019 President Heidi Jo Winkle is the closing speaker.

“During the ceremony, the graduates will proudly receive their dental hygiene pin attached to their purple sash, the official color of dentistry, and recite the Dental Hygiene Oath,” said Dental Hygiene Program Director Donna Richards, RDH, M.Ed., who will give closing remarks.

According to the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, purple has been the official color of dental professionals since 1897, when lilac was chosen for the emblem of the National Association of Dental Faculties. It long has been the trim color for dental hygiene graduates’ caps and gowns and is said to signify compassion, purpose and inspiration.

Also during the ceremony several awards, including the HuFriedy Outstanding Clinic Award (“Golden Scaler Award”) will be presented. Adjunct faculty Rachael Bailes, RDH, BSDH, who received the Golden Scaler Award when she was at Pima, will present that award.
