What: Arizona STEM Adventure
When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 22
Where: Northwest Campus, 7600 N. Shannon Road
This is the fifth year the event is being held at Pima, which welcomes the opportunity to both get children excited about science, while also showcasing the excellent science facilities available at Pima. The purpose is to encourage a life-long interest in STEM careers. Teachers submitted applications to attend Arizona STEM Adventure and were notified of their selection in early October.
Approximately 45 organizations are represented, including scientists, engineers, and educators who will provide demonstrations and hands-on activities. Activities that the 4th through 8th graders will participate in include: learning how ice cream is made using nitrogen, making their own silly putty, seeing how a solar oven can be used to bake cookies, building a rocket out of a drinking straw, learning to identify meteorites, learning about robotics, plus many more fun activities.
While the students are visiting the exhibitors, their teachers will spend the morning in a free Professional Development workshop learning how to incorporate STEM into their lesson plans to help students with a science or engineering project for SARSEF Fair 2020.
The Arizona STEM Adventure is co-sponsored by Pima Community College, SARSEF (Southern Arizona Research Science and Engineering Foundation), IBM, Raytheon, the STEMAZING Project, Office of the Pima County School Superintendent, the UA Stem Learning Center and Agents of STEAM.
