Pima faculty, students drive Worldwide Teach-In for Climate and Justice

Pima Community College is bringing together faculty and students, and community members, including local leaders, to discuss addressing climate change as part of the Worldwide Teach-In: Climate/Justice on March 30.
Pima’s Worldwide Teach-In for Climate and Justice: Solve Climate by 2030 is 9 a.m.-noon in the Amethyst Room at Downtown Campus, 1255 N. Stone Ave., and will be livestreamed on the College’s YouTube channel.
The event features moderated workshops with panelists on three themes: Climate Change Awareness, Impacts and Actions; Teaching and Learning About Climate Change; and Technical Innovations and Planning for the Future, with a continuing online discussion after the event ends.
Pima students are moderating or participating in each workshop. Pima Geology and Geography Department Head Noah Fay, one of the event planners and its emcee, says organizers wanted the event to involve students and the community as much as possible, along with climate change experts.
“The goal for this event is to foster a sense of realistic optimism by bringing together the greater PCC community to share ideas and opportunities around climate change actions and solutions,” Fay says.
In addition, Tucson Mayor Regina Romero will speak, along with Pima Chancellor Lee D. Lambert and Pima Governing Board Chair Catherine Ripley. A video message from U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva will be shown, too. The Mayor’s Environmental and Sustainability Advisor Fatima Luna is a panelist in one of the workshops.
Other participants include Trevor Ledbetter, the University of Arizona’s Office of Sustainability Director, and Edward Beshore of the Greater Tucson Chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby.
