U.S. Representative Raúl Grijalva to visit Pima Community College’s Advanced Manufacturing Building
TUCSON, AZ – On Tuesday, October 18, U.S. Congressman Raúl Grijalva will visit Pima Community College’s (PCC) new Advanced Manufacturing Building for a hard-hat tour of the facility now nearing completion. The building will be a stunning part of the Applied Technology Center of Excellence at PCC’s Downtown Campus, and is scheduled to open in early spring 2023.
Congressman Grijalva helped secure federal funding of $1 million that will purchase equipment that will go in the facility’s Flexible Industry Training Lab, also known as the FIT Lab. This $1 million will allow PCC to purchase more than 41 pieces of state-of-the art manufacturing equipment, ranging from 3D scanners and printers, to foundry and casting equipment, to electronic assembly tools, laser cutter, robotic arms and probes, and electronic wiring trainers.
The funding was also supported by U.S. Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, U.S. Senator Mark Kelly, and U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema
The Advanced Manufacturing Building and its FIT Lab are examples of Pima Community College’s priority to partner together with business and industry to train and upskill employees in necessary 21st century skills. The FIT Lab will serve as a place where the necessary innovation, collaboration, and reengineering of higher education can occur to create a talent pipeline that builds a workforce that is imperative for a thriving Arizona economy.
