Pima Student Named to All-USA Academic Team

Seven Pima Students Named to All-AZ Team, win scholarships valued at $25K

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College student Kira Okuma has been selected as a member of the 2023 All-USA Academic Team. She also is one of seven Pima students named to the Phi Theta Kappa 2023 All-AZ Academic Team, which carries with it a scholarship valued at an estimated $25,000 or more.

Only 20 students nationwide are chosen for the All-USA Academic Team. Members are selected for their outstanding intellectual achievement, leadership, and community and campus engagement. The All-USA Academic Team is sponsored by Cengage with additional support provided by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and Phi Theta Kappa.

As an All-USA Academic Team member, Okuma will receive a $5,000 scholarship and a special medallion. The award will be presented at Phi Theta Kappa’s Presidents Breakfast held during the AACC Convention April 3 in Denver, Colorado. Okuma plans to graduate this summer with an Associate of Business Administration and will pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Accounting. Her career goal is to become a Certified Public Accountant.

Okuma is one of seven Pima students named to Phi Theta Kappa’s 2023 All Arizona Academic Team. The other honorees are Matthew Arcarese, Teresa Billick, Emma Brack, Khalil Gatto, Nicole Gil López and Daniel Schessler. Community college students from around the state are selected each year for academic achievement, leadership and service to the community.

All Pima team members receive two-year Arizona Board of Regents tuition waivers for any Arizona public university and are eligible for additional national scholarships. The ABOR scholarships are for a maximum of 60 credit hours over 10 semesters, which translates to a value of an estimated $25k or more at current tuition rates.
