Thrilling Adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” to Haunt Pima Stage, Oct. 17
Tucson, AZ – Prepare for suspense, horror, and intrigue as the timeless tale of “Dracula” comes to life in a thrilling stage production directed by Maryann Green and adapted by Meg O’Connor from Bram Stoker's classic novel. With Zora Street, a current student, serving as Assistant Director, this electrifying production explores the chilling battle between good and evil in the heart of a secluded asylum, where a powerful and ancient vampire terrorizes the living.
Set in the shadowy halls of a local sanatorium, the play follows young Jonathan Harker as he teams up with renowned professor Annika Van Helsing to combat the sinister influence of a vampire preying on vulnerable patients and loved ones. Together, they must navigate the mysteries of the undead, facing terrifying supernatural forces and moral dilemmas as they race against time to stop the vampire’s reign of terror.
“This new script has so much to offer even the most seasoned Dracula fan,” says Green. “The strong female characters are central to the action of the play. In addition, this version of Van Helsing really explores the idea of believing what you actually see and experience as opposed to being ruled by old notions and emotions. Playwright Meg O’Connor has done a masterful job of separating the sensuality that many audiences have come to expect of Dracula, from the monster’s inherent violence.”
This play promises to deliver a spine-tingling experience with an outstanding cast and creative team who have brought a contemporary flair to the classic story while preserving the eerie, captivating essence of Stoker’s work. Technical director Tony Cordaro has outdone himself with an imposing two-story set design that transports the audience from the moment they walk into the theater. The production combines dynamic stagecraft, intense performances and mesmerizing special effects to bring the terrifying legend to life.
