Bernal Gallery Presents 'Reprieve' by Dana Roes, Pima Community College Dean of Arts, Jan. 27
Tucson, Arizona – The Bernal Gallery at Pima Community College is honored to present “Reprieve,” a solo exhibition by Dana Roes, Dean of Arts, running Jan. 27-March 7. This compelling exhibit combines selections from Roes’ “Untitled” (2022-2023) collection, her evocative “Future Tense” series, and debuts new works, offering an introspective exploration of space, transition and resilience.
As the Dean of Arts, Roes continues to build upon her celebrated career as an artist while navigating a leadership role alongside a distinguished faculty of internationally recognized artists. Roes’ work frequently examines themes of voids, psychological spaces and the coexistence of multiple realities. Her paintings invite viewers to pause and engage the tension between the material and the immaterial, revealing moments of insight and reflection amid uncertainty.
Roes’ “Untitled” series captures transitional states, using negative space to emphasize the beauty of absence and the energy of what lies between. Her “Future Tense” series addresses coexistence in a changing world inspired by environmental and political shifts. In these works, monolithic forms and vibrant colors convey both resilience and optimism, a nod to Viktor Frankl’s words: “That which gives light must endure burning.” Together, the pieces in “Reprieve” balance introspection with the promise of forward momentum.
Roes holds an MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania and a BFA from the Moore College of Art. Her accolades include a Fulbright Fellowship and a residency at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and in Sweden, Australia and China, and has been featured in solo exhibitions at prestigious venues such as the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery in Florida, the Gallery Listamistodim in Iceland and the Fay Gold Gallery in Georgia.
This exhibition offers the community an opportunity to experience the artistry of a leader who embodies the creative excellence and innovative spirit of Pima Community College’s Arts Division.
