Zora Street during rehearsals of Dracula

Taking a Bite Out of Success

PCC student, Zora Street spooks audiences as their Assistant Directing debut in Dracula.

By Justin Kree, External Relations

Zora Street, much like many people, always wanted to live and go to school in a safe space. Zora is most comfortable with other theater people. The PCC theater allows Zora's vision to come to life in the current production of Dracula.

“I'm enjoying myself helping direct Dracula here at PCC. Director Maryann Green built me up to be the assistant director for this great show, and I'm grateful for that opportunity.” ~Zora Street

"I have mutual respect in the local theater community here at PCC and the Tucson theater community." PCC Student and Assistant Director Zora Street said. "Whenever I have a rough time, I find that support from my theater peers to pick me back up."

Zora, a 2023 Canyon Del Oro High School graduate in Oro Valley, is currently a theater major at PCC. They have directed high school plays before, even thinking of going into teaching as a career. However, Zora realized it wasn't the teaching aspect they loved, it was directing.

Directing college students is different from directing high school students. Zora explains that directing the two groups is fun, but adults have the same amount of maturity, which is appreciated. PCC helped Zora to see those skills come to fruition.

"Working with college adults proves to have a more connection between me and them," Zora said. There is more of an equal role working with college students than high school students.

Being the assistant director for Dracula is Zora's first time having that position at PCC. An experience they won't forget.

"I'm enjoying myself helping direct Dracula here at PCC. Director Maryann Green built me up to be the assistant director for this great show, and I'm grateful for that opportunity," Zora said.

The first time the curtain went up on Dracula, Zora was right where they wanted to be – in the audience with their closest friend, and the PCC community showcasing their hard work.

"Being able to share opening night with a large group of people, live, this is the only time they will ever see the performance that way, which is a lovely experience. Being able to share that exact moment with the people you love the most in your community is powerful to witness," Zora said.
