Minimum Qualifications for Program Eligibility
Potential aviation maintenance students must
- demonstrate college skill levels in math and reading. An official college transcript displaying the completion of math and reading classes at or beyond these levels may be used in place of the assessments to verify skill level. See the Preparatory Coursework section of the program page for more information on required coursework and grades or assessment levels.
- submit a negative alcohol and drug screening test
- attend an Aviation Technology Program orientation and submit a completed, signed Aviation Technology Program application.
Physical Requirements
Throughout the course of all of the trainings in Pima's Aviation Technology Program occasional exposure to toxic chemicals and particulate matter may occur, which is typical in the aviation industry. Training on personal protection equipment (PPE) wear and use is mandatory. Each student is personally responsible for the proper wear and usage of PPE.
The Aviation Technology Program has physical requirements to help ensure that students complete the coursework as specified by the industry and meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements. Program physical requirements are as follows:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to work in small, confined areas
- Ability to work kneeling, bending and sitting
- Ability to climb stairs and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work at heights approaching 60 feet
- Ability to work in high noise environments, wearing ear protection
- Ability to work wearing eye protection
- Ability to work while wearing a respirator mask
