Program Requirements

Certification

The Arizona Department of Health Services, Division of Public Health Services, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services & Trauma System certifies EMTs in the state. It requires that PCC EMT students successfully complete required PCC prerequisites and courses, successfully complete all portions of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) exam, and meet all physical and background requirements. The NREMT charges a fee for certification testing. After receiving national certification, you must submit an application to be certified by the state of Arizona to work in Arizona as an EMT.

Important note: Students with felony and some misdemeanor convictions, those awaiting trial on a criminal charge or those with a limitation that could prevent them from performing the physical duties of an EMT, may NOT be eligible to test for or receive state and national certification, despite completing PCC training. If you have questions about eligibility, contact the Arizona Department of Health Services, 800-200-8523 or 602-364-3150.
