No Tuition or Property Tax Increase in Proposed 2021-2022 Pima Community College Budget
College releases budget information in advance of Public Hearing and Special Meeting June 9
Tucson, AZ – In compliance with Arizona Revised Statute 15-1461, Pima County Community College District (PCCCD) has released its fiscal year 2022 proposed budget information. The proposed budget was published in the Arizona Daily Star on May 24, and a second publication is planned for May 31, 2021. The College’s proposed budget has no tuition increase and no property tax increase.
The Governing Board approved the proposed budget at its Regular Meeting on May 12.
“Pima County residents are facing unprecedented financial pressure stemming from COVID,” Chancellor Lee D. Lambert said. “Given the ongoing economic uncertainty, it’s the position of the Governing Board and the College that the College forgo a raise in tuition, so that learners may continue to benefit from an affordable, quality Pima education.
“Further, due to the favorable outcome of Proposition 481, the College will not increase property taxes, in order to bolster the economic recovery from the pandemic,” Chancellor Lambert added.
The College will generate approximately $1.35M in additional revenue for fiscal year 2022 due to growth and new property. A levy neutral assessment will lower the primary tax rate from $1.3359 to $1.2733 per $100 of assessed valuation. The College’s secondary tax rate is proposed to continue at zero as the College has no outstanding general obligation debt.
he budget positions the College for an increase in onsite classes and services in Fall 2021 while providing capacity for continued capital improvements, including the implementation of the Centers of Excellence and an investment in Information Technology equipment and infrastructure.
