Statement on Possible Actions to Dismantle the U.S. Department of Education
Dear Pima Community College Faculty, Administrators, Staff, and Students,
I want to acknowledge the uncertainty and concern many of you have expressed in light of recent federal actions, including steps to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education. As we navigate these developments, I want to assure you that Pima Community College remains steadfast in its commitment to providing accessible, affordable, high-quality education for all of our students.
Along with other colleges and universities from across the country, we are working diligently to assess the potential impacts of these executive orders and decisions on our students and employees. Our government relations team is closely connected with key policymakers in Congress, federal agencies, and national higher education associations. We are also closely monitoring guidance related to federal financial aid, accreditation, program funding, and other critical areas, and we will keep you informed as more information becomes available.
For students relying on federal financial aid, we understand that this news may be especially unsettling. For now, federal financial aid is not being impacted, and the College is disbursing aid normally, including the Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work Study, and Direct Loans. We will continue to advocate for our students and ensure they have the necessary resources to complete their education.
During times of uncertainty, it is natural to have questions about what lies ahead. While we do not yet have all the answers, our mission remains unchanged. We will continue to serve our students and community with integrity, excellence, and an unwavering dedication to providing excellent and affordable higher education.
Thank you for all that you do to make Pima Community College a place of opportunity, learning, and support for all. Please continue your work with the same dedication and focus, knowing that we are closely monitoring developments and will keep you informed of any relevant updates.
With appreciation,
Jeffrey P. Nasse, Ph. D.Chancellor
