MoCAP Framework
The Men of Color Achievement Program (MoCAP) at Pima Community College empowers men of color to succeed academically, grow personally, and engage with their community. We offer a supportive space to navigate challenges, build connections, and reach your goals in school, work, and life.
We aim to create a strong, supportive community where men of color feel valued, confident, and prepared to lead. By building on your strengths, we provide the tools and guidance necessary for academic, professional, and personal success.
MoCAP draws from two foundational theories:
We use Dr. Tara Yosso’s framework to recognize and build on the wealth of knowledge, skills, and strengths you bring to college. This asset-based model focuses on:
- Navigational Capital: Skills to navigate institutional systems.
- Social Capital: Building supportive networks.
- Familial Capital: Leveraging family and cultural connections.
- Resistance, Aspirational, and Linguistic Capital: Empowering advocacy, leadership, and self-expression.
Dr. Laurie Schreiner’s model ensures we support you holistically:
- Academic: Engaged learning and academic determination.
- Interpersonal: Building meaningful connections.
- Intrapersonal: Fostering emotional well-being and a growth mindset.
