Scope of Practice
Dental Hygiene AAS
Dental hygiene care provided in the PCC Dental Hygiene Clinic as part of the PCC Dental Hygiene program is supervised by a licensed dentist and licensed dental hygienists. It is based upon the standard of care for the profession of dentistry and the Rules and Statutes of the Arizona State Dental Practice Act.
The services that are provided include but are not limited to:
- Dental exam by a licensed dentist
- Dental Prophylaxis (teeth cleaning)
- Oral Hygiene Instruction
- Pit and Fissure Sealants
- Full Mouth or Bitewing Radiographs
- Oral Cancer Screening
- Panoramic Radiographs
- Whitening
- Periodontal Disease Management (Root Planning and Scaling)
- Dental prophylaxis
- Fluoride treatment
- Desensitization treatment
- Local anesthesia and nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation therapy
- Recall/recare dental hygiene appointments- patients are selected based upon the dental hygiene students’ course requirements and availability
