Pell Recalculation Date

Your initial Pell Grant is calculated based on anticipated full-time enrollment then adjusted according to the actual enrollment captured on the Pell Recalculation Date (PRD).  This means that your Pell Grant will be calculated based on your enrollment as of the PRD. To maximize your award, it is important to finalize your course schedule before the PRD even if some of the classes you are considering start later.

Try our new Pell Grant Estimator to estimate the amount of your Pell Grant.

Types of Aid Affected

All Title IV and AZ State Grant aid is affected by the CPoS process, including:

  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
  • AZ Leap State Grant

PRD does not apply to Federal Direct Loans, Federal Work Study, scholarships or other types of funding; however, scholarships have specific requirements that must be met for eligibility. Review the details of your scholarship for specific eligibility criteria.

  • Fall 2024 - 9/9/2024
  • Spring 2025 - 1/30/2025
  • Summer 2025 - 6/12/2025

A Pell Grant award may be increased, decreased, or even canceled if changes to enrollment are made prior to 7:00pm local time. If a student's aid is reduced and creates a balance due to the college, the student will be responsible for payment.

As you finalize your schedule, note that the following course statuses do not count towards active enrollment and can not be used to calculate the Pell Grant amount:

  • Waitlisted
  • Dropped
  • Withdrawn (W grades)
  • Repeat
  • Not required, applicable in the program of study

Initial Enrollment after PRD: A student first enrolling after the PRD should register for all required, applicable courses on the same day since the day the student first enrolls becomes the PRD.

2024-2025 Enrollment Intensity

Credit Hours Enrollment Level Enrollment Intensity
12+ Full-Time 100%
11 Three-Quarter-Time 92%
10 Three-Quarter-Time 83%
9 Three-Quarter-Time 75%
8 Half-Time 67%
7 Half-Time 58%
6 Half-Time 50%
5 Less-Than-Half-Time 42%
4 Less-Than-Half-Time 33%
3 Less-Than-Half-Time 25%
2 Less-Than-Half-Time 17%
1 Less-Than-Half-Time 8%

SCENARIO 1: A student enrollment status is captured at 6 credits (1/2 time) at the PRD. After the PRD the student adds a 3 credit course increasing their course load to 9 credits (3/4 time). The enrollment status used to determine Pell Grant funds will remain at 1/2 time and the Pell Grant amount will not increase.

SCENARIO 2: A student drops/withdraws from a course(s) after the PRD without beginning attendance and then adds another course(s). The enrollment status used to determine the student's Pell Grant will remain at the same level as captured on the PRD. However, the student must begin attendance in all courses used to determine their enrollment status.

SCENARIO 3: A student enrollment status is captured at 6 credits (1/2 time) at the PRD. After the PRD the student drops a 3 credit class, but then adds another 3 credit class. The enrollment status used to determine Pell Grant funds will not decrease and will remain at 1/2 time. However, the course must meet the criteria of an eligible class:

  • Applicable to the program of study on record
  • Needed as a graduation requirement
  • Is not excluded based on the repeat rule
  • Is an eligible remedial course

In some cases a student’s enrollment status may not be captured on the published PRD. For example, students who are determined eligible and enrolled in courses after the PRD.

SCENARIO 1: An eligible student initially enrolls in courses after the published PRD. The enrollment status for this student will be determined on the day the student registers for classes. PCC recommends that students register for all coursework simultaneously.

SCENARIO 2: An eligible student who was registered, but never begun attendance in any courses prior to the PRD, but re-registers after the PRD will have their enrollment status determined on the day the student re-registers for classes. This is because the student never activated their PRD and will be calculated on the day the student re-registers for classes.

SCENARIO 3: An eligible student who registers and begins attendance in a course(s) prior to the PRD then withdraws, but re-enrolls after the PRD will have their enrollment status determined based on their original capture (at the time of the withdrawal). This student activated their PRD and can be only calculated at their original status.

SCENARIO 4: A student who has been actively enrolled and whose financial aid eligibility is not determined until after the published PRD, will have their enrollment status determined at the time the student becomes eligible to receive federal financial aid. This includes all verification and student eligibility requirements.
