Strategic Planning Integration with Organizational Culture
Culture of Care
Pima Community College has a long history of embracing the concept of care as a hallmark to service to our community, students and employees. In Fall 2023, the Interim Chancellor, set a goal to reignite this part of the College and a year long process of discovery, exploration, and reflection (DER) was undertaken. The goal was to empower the institution as student-ready, employee-ready, and model organization that cares about all aspects of the community it represents.
The DER process involved research, surveys, and listening sessions centered on the employees but also included students and the greater community. Out of this process three key process elements were identified:
- Employees wanted to be central in the development of a culture of care model for Pima.
- Facilitation from experts in the area of care and kindness would help the development process.
- All areas of the College needed to be included and be responsible for the model once completed.
As of Fall 2024, Pima Community College is working with the University of Arizona’s Science of Kindness Community Collective to develop our Culture of Care model with implementation planned for Spring 2025. As the plan is developed and resources created, they will be distributed.
Pima Community College is embarking on the plan because the science shows that organizations which focus on care and kindness have increased student outcomes and retention, better employee productivity and retention, and better physical and mental well-being for everyone involved.
